4 days of Williamsburg
We had a long weekend in Colonial Williamsburg a couple weekends ago. About three years ago, we figured out that one of the keys to a successful vacation with children is a 2 bedroom condo, giving everybody a bit of their own space. Sophie can do some early morning reading while she waits for the rest of us to wake up.
On the day of my conference, Sophie and her dad went out to Jamestown where they have the coolest recreated settlement ever and three boats in the water that you can go down into the hulls to see what it was like.
The streets of Colonial Williamsburg are perfect for kids no traffic and each house has some sort of attraction. You can roam the streets, see the animals and farms and that's about the right speed for a 4-year old. Even a place for time out if necessary.
I don't know what it is about Williamsburg (the entire area for 50 is marshy and flat) but I freakishly love the place and will head out there anytime I have an excuse.
