When you get a ball through the hoop, the ball depresses a lever which then activates the sounds--crowd cheers, buzzers, take-me-out-to-the-ball-game noises--that are meant to reward you.
Sophie has figured out that she can cut out the middle man and just press the lever herself. She's hacked her toy.
