Williamsburg and Jamestown

We went to Williamsburg and Jamestown for Thanksgiving with mixed results. While she enjoyed herself, it wasn't as edifying was we might have expected. I feel she knows no more about 17th century American history than before. In Williamsburg she mostly entertained herself with leaves and sitting on stairs. With this lack of attention, she'll never get a 5 on the AP American History test. Glad we didn't pay the entrance fees for us all. At $144 for the four of us, those would have been the most expensive leaves ever.

In Jamestown, she loved dressing up in the armor and getting on the boats, but she was horribly frustrated that they didn't actually sail. The museum could have made a killing if they had sold pretend armor next to the place where you can try it on.

Her absolute favorite place was the children's museum in Richmond. In part, perhaps, because it's more of an indoor playground than a museum. We stopped there both on the way out to Williamsburg and on the return trip. However, with this trip, she's gotten the word museum down and that is surely going to present problems the next time we suggest going to a museum. She's going to think, cool indoor playground, when we're really talking about checking out a bunch of old pictures and statues that can't be touched.
